AllertMe App Review

With so many product recalls, it can be difficult to keep up, and keep safe. Most food allergy folks wait for email alerts from FARE, or count on numerous Facebook or online support groups to keep them in the loop and informed.  And let's face it, if you're anything like me, you are always nervous that you've missed something. But now, there is a better way. The AllertMe app. I've been using this app now for close to a month.  It was given to me by its creator in order for me to use it, and post an honest review.  All opinions are my own

Pros: Speed. The app notifies as soon as the recall is announced. No waiting for an email from a third party, or hoping that you catch it online in a Facebook group. I saw the Rold Gold recall on the app long before an email came through my inbox.  In this case it did actually stop me from purchasing the pretzels which have long been on our "safe" list. It just doesn't get any better than having instant notification right in your pocket!

Customize-able.  When you get the app, you choose which allergens you would like to receive notifications for.  There is also an option for "Safety" alerts, such as listeria, e coli, salmonella, etc; as well as an option for sulfites.  Preferences can be changed at any time.  I set mine to notify for peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, dairy, and safety alerts. (Really, every parent should have this app regardless of food allergies, just for the Safety Recall option!)

Easy to navigate. Each alert can be clicked on for complete information, and even a picture of the product is included if one is available. The quality and thorough nature of the content makes it as easy as possible to know what to avoid, or what to take out of your kitchen if you've already purchased it!

This app was created by a food allergy dad who believes he can make a difference. Click HERE to read more about Tim Mussmon's story and why he created this app.

Cons/Suggestions: A way to choose a state or region for notifications would help to limit the number of non-applicable notifications received.  For example, if a product has only been sold in several states, an alert wouldn't come through unless you have chosen that state or region.

Bottom Line: Get this app!!!!  AllertMe is a top notch tool for any food allergy family! Accurate, speedy information about the safety of food products helps keep food allergic loved ones safer from accidental ingestion.  I am so impressed with this app, and so grateful for Tim Mussmon's creativity and his determination to find a better way to help all food allergy families stay safe!
