Towering Taco Burgers

When I sit down to make the grocery list and meal plan for the week, I often ask my children if there's anything they would like to request.  The two most frequent responses are tacos, and turkey burgers.  And now...behold the meal that wins everyone's hearts, the meal that combines the two most frequently requested meals in The Allergy Safe Kitchen...The Towering Taco Burger!!!

By ingredients, this taco burger recipe is peanut-free, tree nut-free, dairy-free, egg-free, fish-free, soy free, and shellfish-free.  As always, check this ingredient list and your local products to make sure that this recipe is allergy safe for your family and/or friends! (This recipe is not marked gluten free because certain spice manufacturers have a high rate of  cross-contamination.  Here's a LINK to more information! If spices are safe for you, substitute a GF bun for a GF meal!)

Steps marked with an asterisk (*) are child friendly!

Ingredients:

This list will vary based on your allergy needs, and your preference for toppings.  Add any topping that screams "Taco!!!" to you!  We top our burgers with:

sliced bell pepper
sliced tomato (or salsa/pico de gallo)
guacamole (Get my recipes for pico and guac HERE)
lettuce
sliced cucumber

For the burgers:
2 pounds ground turkey (NOT extra lean - you'll end up with hockey pucks)
My Taco Seasoning without the cornstarch - Click HERE for recipe
Olive oil

Directions:
  1. * Prepare all the toppings, cover and refrigerate.
  2. * Prepare the taco seasoning.
  3. * Add half the taco seasoning into the ground turkey. Mix well, with your hands.
  4. *Form ground turkey into burger patties.  My children love this part!  They use a burger press like this!   Place on a tray between sheets of waxed paper. Wash hands thoroughly.
  5. * (older children) In a large skillet, or on the grill, cook burgers.  * Sprinkle extra taco seasoning on both sides of the patty before placing in the skillet or on the grill.
  6. Serve with buns and toppings!

As always, from The Allergy Safe Kitchen, I wish you "Good Cooking, and Safe Eating"!
